Castrati: A Class of Angels

The Komitas Museum-Institute will host a lecture entitled "Castrati: A Class of Angels" by Araks Shahinyan—writer, translator, musicologist, and lecturer at the American University of Armenia.

The lecture is dedicated to the lives of the castrati, the possessors of the most extraordinary singing voice of the Baroque era, tracing their remarkable yet short-lived musical journey from the Papal Chapel to the operatic stage. It will also include an analysis of an operatic aria from the castrati repertoire through musical and extra-musical (textual and psychological) approaches.

Admission is free.
