The Ancient Ritual Origins of Komitas's 'Deriko' Recordings

The Komitas Museum-Institute will host a lecture entitled "The Ancient Ritual Origins of Komitas's 'Deriko' Recordings." The lecture will be delivered by Marianna Tigranyan, musicologist and PhD.

The epic-lyrical folk songs known as "Deriko" hold a unique place in the treasury of Armenian traditional music. They were collected and documented by various folklorists and ethnomusicologists over the years. The name Deriko is associated with Derketo, the Fish Goddess, whose cult dates back to the depths of the pre-Christian era, preserving traces of ancient ritual traditions.

Admission is free.
