Honored Artist of the Republic of Armenia
He graduated from the Musicology (1971) and Opera-Symphonic Conducting (1974) departments of the Yerevan State Conservatory. In 1985 he completed his postgraduate studies at the Moscow Conservatory with distinction (supervisor: G. Rozhdestvensky).
He led the Leninakan State Chamber Orchestra (1977–79) and served as assistant conductor of the State Symphony Orchestra of Armenia.
He founded and directed the "Sharakan" (formerly "Gandzer") ensemble of ancient music. He has toured in Europe and participated in prestigious international festivals.
He is the author of the four-volume series Armenia in Songs, numerous scholarly articles, and polyphonic arrangements. His arrangements have been performed by distinguished musicians (L. Zakaryan, V. Stamboltsyan, and others).
