One Thousand and one Song

The One Thousand and One Songs publication series of the Komitas Museum-Institute was developed on the basis of the museum’s educational program of the same name. The program was launched in 2016 and has been continuously implemented ever since.

Within the framework of the educational program, participants are introduced to various genres of Armenian folk musical folklore, followed by practical singing instruction. The materials compiled in the One Thousand and One Songs series serve as the primary source for this teaching process.

Each volume of the series is dedicated to a particular genre of folk song. It includes a brief introduction to the genre, a selection of 50 songs, English translations of all Armenian texts, and scholarly transliterations according to the HMB system. This structure is intended to make the material accessible to international audiences as well.

catalogues

The Komitas Museum-Institute publishes exhibition catalogues accompanying its temporary exhibitions. More than simple records of the displays, these catalogues serve as valuable scholarly resources, bringing together photographs of exhibited materials, archival documents, and research articles by specialists in the fields of musicology, history, cultural studies, and art history.

Each catalogue is designed to preserve and expand the exhibition experience, offering visitors and researchers deeper insight into the themes, personalities, and historical contexts presented in the museum. Through these publications, the Komitas Museum-Institute aims to make the results of its ongoing research and curatorial work accessible to a wider audience and to contribute to the study of Komitas’s life, legacy, and Armenian cultural heritage.
